Area Description: The beautiful province of Silistra is situated in the north-eastern part of Bulgaria, on the bank of the Danube river. The town of Silistra is the administrative centre of the province. It is a town of millennium-old past, playing an important part in the history of the country. The province consists of seven county centres, four of which are towns. The tourism in the Silistra province has a high growth potential and is among the priorities in the regional plan for development. The natural and historical requisites of the region offer good opportunities for development of all types of tourism – cultural, religious, entertaining, cognitive, ecological, rural and hunting. The rich cultural and historical heritage, unique customs and the folklore of the local people have been of particular interest to the visitors of the region. The town of Silistra is one of the oldest Bulgarian towns, with extremely rich and ancient history, built some 1800 years ago as a Roman fortress. The Srebarna Lake is situated along the Danube river, in north-eastern Bulgaria. The whole lake is covered with rush and other water-loving plants. The vegetation is represented also with 67 other supreme plants, some of them very rare in Europe. Some of the inhabitants of the Srebarna Lake are under the protection and are listed in the Red book of birds. The county of Dulovo is situated in the north-eastern part of the Danubian plain, encompassing the northernmost part of the Ludogorieto region. The administrative centre of the county is the town of Dulovo. The climatic conditions are typical for the moderate continental climate. The whole of the region is wide opened to the north. The open terrain configuration predetermines the exposure to winds from all the directions, but the greatest repetition have the south-eastern and the southern winds. The forests account for 23 % of the whole territory of the county. Natural plantations of oak, cerris oak, hornbeam and the like are prevalent. The other settlements in the province are the towns of Tutrakan and Alfatar and the villages of Glavnitza and Malak Preslavetz, all boasting enticingly beautiful nature, marked by wild exuberance and numerous challenges.
